Cultivating Future Leaders: The 2024 NY Animal Agriculture Young Advocates Scholarship

Over the past two years, the NY Animal Agriculture Young Advocates Scholarship initiative has empowered aspiring individuals in the field of agriculture, fostering growth and education. As we embark on the journey into 2024, NYAAC aims to continue shaping the future of animal agriculture via young people with a passion for animal agriculture. 

Background: The NY Animal Agriculture Young Advocates Scholarship has a rich history of supporting New York residents pursuing higher education in various agriculture-related disciplines. In 2022, the scholarship provided two deserving individuals with $500.00 each, marking the beginning of a tradition that would grow and flourish. 

Building on this success, the scholarship evolved in 2023, with the New York Animal Agriculture Coalition (NYAAC) awarding two $750.00 scholarships, reflecting the commitment of NYAAC to promoting education and advocacy efforts in the production of animal agriculture. The support from farmers and farm businesses plays a pivotal role in making these scholarships possible.

2024 Scholarship Details: The NY Animal Agriculture Young Advocates Scholarship is set to continue its legacy of empowering the next generation of leaders in 2024. The eligibility criteria remain consistent with a few refinements:

• Open to New York residents engaged in college education in Fall 2024 OR non-NY residents attending an NYS University as a full-time student.
• Majors encompass a range of disciplines, including Livestock Management, Dairy Science, Agricultural Education, Agriculture Communications, Agricultural Business, or Animal Science.

*Notable changes for 2024 include the application deadline on February 23rd, ensuring that aspiring advocates have ample time to submit their applications. 

The announcement of the two scholarship recipients will take place in March 2024.

Each recipient will be awarded $750.00 after providing proof of attendance through an official transcript and maintaining a 2.5 college GPA. This adjustment in the award structure reflects the commitment to recognizing and supporting the achievements of young advocates as they progress through their academic journey.
