As New York is currently ranked third nationally in milk production and first in yogurt, cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese production, it’s no secret that dairy farms are a critical part of the agriculture industry and economic growth throughout New York State. At the end of the day, dairy farming is a business and farmers must be innovative, creative, business-minded and profitable to continue farming into the future. However, in order to be a successful business, farmers must focus on their herd, their products and the environment.  Research has shown farmers what can and should be done on the farm in regards to cow comfort, nutrition, sustainability, and breeding and selection.
