Every day is “Labor Day” at the Dairy Cow Birthing Center at the New York State Fair, where three cows give birth in plain view to fairgoers daily. This free educational exhibit and experience is like none other on the fairgrounds, offering fairgoers an opportunity to witness the miracle of life, as well as converse with dozens of real dairy farmers.

To bring this exhibit to the State Fair is no small feat. It takes months of planning – literally, as cows must be pregnant for nine months – and lots of help from others to make this happen. As members of the dairy industry, we are proud to be able to present this opportunity to the public, as we recognize that the general population is now two to three times removed from agriculture, and very few today will have the chance to visit a dairy farm. So we’ve brought the farm to the fair to share the passion, care and commitment dairy farmers have for their animals.

It takes the effort and resources of many to make this exhibit a reality and we are humbled by the outpouring of DFA -4C-Centered-logosupport by companies, organizations and individuals who put their brands, biases and personal agendas aside for the greater good of presenting the Dairy Cow Birthing Center to the public at the New York State Fair. Many of these companies have been supporters of this exhibit since the start, others have recently joined – in either case, we appreciate their generous support – which goes beyond dollars and cents.

A very special thank you goes out to the New York Corn and Soybean Growers Association who have supported this exhibit since day one. The check-off funds they collect through the sale of soybeans grown here in New York provided us the seed money to initiate the Dairy Cow Birthing Center in 2013, and those funds continue to support the expansion and improvement of this popular educational exhibit. Also a very special thanks to Farm Credit East, DuPoint Pioneer, Cargill and Dairy Farmers of America for giving above and beyond, as this is a team effort.Cargill-«_black_2c_web_lg

Much like a dairy farm itself, everyone has a role and the more hands to help, the more we can accomplish. The following companies and organizations all share in our mission to enhance the public’s awareness and understanding of dairy farms and we thank them for their contributions to the 2016 Dairy Cow Birthing Center.

And don’t forget to come see the end result: the Dairy Cow Birthing Center at the Great New York State Fair, August 25 – September 5, 2016. There’s a lot that’s changed – including a new location, but also some new elements inside the tent, as well as a new “greeter” at the entrance of our exhibit – you won’t want to miss her! And of course, there will be those 36 #uddermiracles that will be showcased daily! Hope to see you there!
