The New York Animal Agriculture Coalition is thrilled to share that we received an $8,000 grant from the Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement to further support the Dairy Cow Birthing Center at the New York State Fair in 2014. This is the first funding NYAAC has received to help support the 2014 exhibit, and this is the second year Farm Credit has provided funding for this exhibit.
“Farm Credit is a wonderful partner and supporter of the Dairy Cow Birthing Center,” said Jessica Ziehm, NYAAC Executive Director. “Whether they are providing funding or volunteering for shifts at the State Fair, Farm Credit’s support of localized grassroots efforts like the Birthing Center is a true testament to their unwavering commitment to promoting a positive image of agriculture throughout the Northeast.”
As we shared in our grant application, “The State Fair estimates via their exit poll that roughly 160,000 fairgoers visited the new Dairy Cow Birthing Center and 84 percent viewed their experience as positive. This is more people than we originally estimated and reinforces the need and desire to expand this popular exhibit this year.” NYAAC will use the funding to make improvements and additions to the 2014 Dairy Cow Birthing Center, which will include more seating, enhanced AV technology, a social media desk, improved cow comfort and care, printed handouts and more.
Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement supports programs, projects and events that are intended to strengthen agriculture, commercial fishing and the forest products sector in the Northeast. This program is a combined effort of Farm Credit East, Farm Credit of Maine, Yankee Farm Credit and CoBank.
The New York State Fair is scheduled for August 21 – September 1, 2014 in Syracuse. The Diary Cow Birthing Center will remain in the same location as 2013, which is on the west end of the fairgrounds, just inside Gate 9.
