The dairy industry is like any other industry – it has evolved over time. Technology has aided us in the way we do business. As farmers that means healthier animals, higher quality products, less of an environmental impact, greater efficiencies, which allows us to spend a little more time with our cows, our families and doing the things that are important in our lives.
Tim Fessenden of Fessenden Dairy in King Ferry, NY has been a farmer his whole life and has personally witnessed this evolution. “So today, we don’t milk cows with a bucket on a stool. We don’t harvest hay with a pitchfork. We don’t have two cows for our milk. We have 650 cows and sell milk and milk products throughout the world. It’s quite the evolution.”
