The Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement Program awarded $8,000 to the New York Animal Agriculture Coalition (NYAAC) to support its Dairy Cow Birthing Center at the New York State Fair. Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement is a joint effort of Farm Credit East, Yankee Farm Credit and CoBank.
“Farm Credit is pleased to provide support to the New York Animal Agriculture Coalition,” said Bill Lipinski, Farm Credit East CEO. “Their event has proven to be popular among fairgoers, providing educational insight into the dairy industry and networking opportunities for dairy producers and consumers. It’s an excellent means to showcase New York’s vibrant dairy industry.”
Jessica Ziehm, Executive Director for the New York Animal Agriculture Coalition said, “We greatly appreciate this contribution from Farm Credit through Northeast AgEnhancement to support the continued evolution of the Dairy Cow Birthing Center. This exhibit has quickly become one of the most popular exhibits on the fairgrounds, providing over 200,000 urban fairgoers with the opportunity to witness the birth of a baby calf, but more importantly, allowing them to get information about their food straight from the source – the farmer!”
This will be the third year for the Dairy Cow Birthing Center at the New York State Fair, which showcases three births daily. NYAAC will use the Farm Credit grant to support the continued evolution of this free educational exhibit. In addition, funds will be used to feature new components at this year’s exhibit, such as virtual farm videos to supplement live action, a promotional video, a consumer opinion survey, text messaging alerts and in-person training for volunteers.
