While many dairy farms across New York State have evolved from small mom-and-pop operations to larger, extended family operations, dairy farmers are progressive and passionate people. They love their job, which is to care for their animals and the land, as well as their family, and they take that responsibility seriously.

Today, we feature Barbland Dairy of Fabius, New York, which is a third generation, multi-family operation. Collectively, these three owners – Chip Engst, Bret Bossard and Luke Huysman – divide up the responsibilities for caring for 1,450 cows. “Everyday, one of us in our walking through the groups of cows making sure they are healthy,” Bret said.
